The Spiral: Strength By Design

My friend Carol takes daily walks in the woodlands near her home in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania. Along with her husband Dave, they find unusual of patterns of nature,

. . . . like this spiraling tree trunk.

A spiraling tree trunk shows us nature’s creative ability to adapt to environmental stresses. In this case, an uneven burden of heavy snow will trigger the trunk to spiral itself. This action strengthens the base while allowing the upper branches to bend and sway with the wind. Since we only get to see this twirling trunk when the bark is gone, this phenomenon is not as rare as we might think. Nature is programmed to find a way to survive. Nature is the great adapter–all part of the creator’s handiwork.

The Spiral Pathway

The biggest surprise on the soulful journey to authenticity,
is that the path is a spiral.
We go up, in circles.
Each time around,
the view gets a little bit wider
We grow wiser and stronger.

A Little Fun with Spirals

Energy moves in cycles, circles, spirals, vortexes, whirls, pulsations, waves, and rhythms—rarely if ever in simple straight lines. ~ Starhawk

Artistry and Authenticity in Creation

Some people, in order to discover God, read books.
But there is a great book: the very appearance of created things.
Look above you!
Look below you!
Note it. Read it.
God, whom you want to discover, never wrote that book with ink.
Instead He set before your eyes the things He had made.
Can you ask for a louder voice than that?
When heaven and earth shout to you, ‘God made me!'”

-------St. Augustine, in reference to St. Anthony the Great
