Seek First to Understand: Part Two of Good Habits (and more)

Four Leaf Clover, Bamboo, Waterdrop
If there were a list of the Seven Habits of Successful Societies, or the Seven Habits of Happy Marriages, I wonder which will be most needed. Would you suggest these? The Habits of Highly Successful Teens, 4-7.

HABIT 4: THINK WIN-WIN is about having mutual respect and mutual benefit in all interactions. It's a mindset of shared values, considerations, and shared solutions. It is the road to compromise and sharing rewards. (Give up the need to be right.)

HABIT 5: SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD is to seek balance and to build relationships that are built upon trust, kindness and learning. When taking the "high road", see the benefits of gleaning new information.

HABIT 6: SYNERGIZE is taking the "high road" with an influx of energies. 1+1=3. Working together builds creativity, solutions and high levels of communication.

HABIT 7: SHARPEN THE SAW is about finding renewal in our physical, mental, spiritual and emotional self. It’s the habit that increases our capacity to digest and implement all effective habits.

HABIT 3: GRAND ENTHUSIAM: Be just as excited about the 128th game of Candy Land as the first.

HABIT 6: GRAND PLAYFULNESS: Dance and sing with the children, without inhibitions. It's ok to be silly.

HABIT 7: GRAND EXPECTATIONS: Live in the sphere of discovery. See everything with fresh new eyes in wonderment of life, nature and beauty.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love,
          where there is injury, pardon,
          where there is doubt, faith,
          where there is despair, hope,
          where there is darkness, light,
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
