Care and Feeding of a Prayer

Yesterday’s post, The Soul’s Anthem, A Step Away, prompted more thought on prayer, more longings, more wondering, and questions about faster results. Then I thought of the lilies of the field and smiled. The verse was written thousands of years before Alexa. It seems impatience is built into our psyche. I plead guilty.

The essence of intelligence is embedded in knowing when to think and act quickly and when to think and act slowly.

Alexa: Where is the answer to my prayer?

If we are honest, prayer can open more questions than answers. Is anyone there? Is my prayer worthy or self-serving? Has anything changed? Where is my reassurance? If our devices offer quick responses, why can't God?

The Feeding of Prayer:

Looking back on my many mistakes, I recall my knee-jerk mindset, the aftermath of reacting too quickly without "feeding my prayer". Prayer, like the lilies of the field, needs life nourishment of sun, water and proper soil.

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, is not selfish, and does not get upset with others.
       ------Corinthians 13:4-8
My prayer needs to be planted in full bright light, grounded in trust, and flowing in streams of love, with the knowledge that I am loved, as are my adversaries, and love will always . . . always . . . find the way.
