Words That Sing

At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet.
      -------Plato
Angels, Christmas, Decoration, Market
Christmas comes packaged in nostalgia: traditions from the past, ornaments flecked with sweet memories, and age-old songs we relish like lost loves.

Our sacred spaces ripple with poetry: words that wrap our hearts in velvet ribbons.

Even Alexa waxes nostalgic, even romantic. She recently found a song from my past and in a flash, I was back with my two best childhood friends, Sandy and Carol, listening to beautiful lyrics that rippled through me. Carl Sandburg said, "Poetry is an echo asking a shadow to dance."

Come dance with me.

But Beautiful

Love is funny, or it's sad
Or it's quiet, or it's mad
It's a good thing or it's bad
But beautiful

Beautiful to take a chance and if you fall you fall
And I'm thinking I wouldn't mind at all.

Love is tearful, or it's gay
It's a problem or it's play
It's a heartache either way
But beautiful.

And I'm thinking if you were mine,
I'd never let you go
And that would be but beautiful,
I know.

Recorded by the Norman Luboff Choir, 1959
And Tony Bennett and Lady GaGa, 2014
From a stable, love, the world's greatest gift.

It came upon the midnight clear, that glorious song of old
From angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold. . .
