There is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres and there is geometry in each arc of a flower. ------ Pythagoras

I wrote this letter shortly after the birth of my first grandchild. Yes, I do harbor a love for geometry. Plato said geometry draws the soul towards truth. It did that for me, when I was doubting the existence of a creator. I was teaching math and geometry and it all made beautiful sense to me. I was in awe of nature’s designs and the hand that created it. And it continues . . .
Dear Lucas, Your life will be surrounded by geometric shapes. I offer you these thoughts as you learn about them and you inch toward truths in your life.

CIRCLES: You are born within a circle of family and friends. As you grow, your circle will expand. You will need guidance and wisdom to determine who will be in or out of you circle.

Rectangles and Squares (The Golden Ratio): Four 90 degree angles formed by two sets of parallel lines. Each corner represent structures of integrity: honesty, hard work, humor and humility. As strong as they are, they can lean and go askew. You will be tested. Be sure those in your circle will help keep you upright.
Triangles: Only three angles and three sides? Did we lose a side? You will face loss and the question is how will you deal with loss? We ache. We grieve. But know this: the triangle is the strongest of polygons. Strength can be born from loss.
Parallel Lines: These lines are equidistant and persistently follow each other. I will be your parallel line, following in your every move. Parallel lines supposedly never meet, yet astrophysicists say that in the arc of the universe, on another sphere, they eventually do meet.
When I cross over, we will meet again.

Planes: Invisible boundaries are part of our lives. Planes are porous and often hard to see, which makes them so tempting and easy to cross. If you cross a dangerous plane, we will welcome you back. If you lose your way, we will cross that plane to rescue you back. I know this because I have been rescued.
Mathematics is the language in which god speaks to people. -------Plato C

The laws of nature are but the mathematical thoughts of God. ------Euclid

The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. ------ Psalm 19:1

I loved this. Nature is truly amazing. Only God could have created such beautiful perfect things for us to marvel at. I am going to pass your letter to Lucas on to my grandchildren. Thank you

Carol,
I am glad you like this enough to forward it. To be honest I was hesitant to post this. So many have an aversion math, yet I see it as perfectly beautiful.
