Hermits: Looking for Home

Spending their lives continually looking for a new home, the hermit crab finds vacated shells and crawls into them, for a while. Then they go looking for another home. Hmmmm. Finding home has also been a theme of my life.

I have dreams about looking for home. Having had ten moves in my adult lifetime across four states, with possibly another move in the near future, I increasing think about my cousin, the hermit crab. Which shell will I be crawling into?

My favorite dream about finding home is the one I have had several times. I walk up a hill, weary and tired, to rest near a very large house. I go in and I am in a large kitchen where there are many people preparing a meal. I ask who is this feast for? I hear it is for me. I feel unworthy, but loved.

In my father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so,
I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you.
             ----John 14:2
Hermit Crab, North Sea, Wildlife
There is a magic in that little world, home;
It is a mystic circle that surrounds comforts
And virtues never known beyond its hallowed limits.
